Mumbai, Aug 31: In Muslim nations and regions around the globe are observing first week of the holy month of Ramzan, a time for followers to abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and such activities during the day. It is only after sunset that Muslims break their fast with traditional meals and sweets.
Muslims in Mumbai too have begun observing the hold month with all the religious fervour. During the time, Muslims are also encouraged to read the entire Quran, to give alms to the poor and needy and thus strengthen their ties with God through prayer. The goal of the fast is to teach humility, patience and sacrifice and thus also seek for forgiveness.
The fast also teaches self-restraint. Devotees also pray for guidance for their future. This year’s Ramadan will continue until Wednesday September 23.
