Mangaluru, Nov 26: As youth are considered to be the building blocks of a nation, St Agnes College (Autonomous) took on the initiative of celebrating youth week from November 25 to 28. The programme aimed to empower youth, is an opportunity to bring out their unique talents and to also inform them of their responsibilities toward nation-building.
The youth week themed ‘Hamse hi nayi shiruvadh- Youth, A Ray of Hope’ was inaugurated on November 25.
Manoj Lewis, assistant professor, Government First Grade College, Kavoor was the resource person who shared his insights on utilizing one's youth for a progressive and meaningful life and hence creating a positive impact in society. “Youth is not a time of life. It is a state of life. One's youth should be celebrated everyday and hence be a ray of hope to all,” he said.
Sr Dr M Jeswina AC, principal, St Agnes College in her presidential address, spoke on how one's youth is measured. “Youth is not associated with age, but the way one thinks. At any point of time, one should always have a youthful approach to life,” she advised.
Sr Dr Carmel Rita AC, college administrator, Sr Dr Venessa AC, vice-principal were also present for the inaugural.
After the formal inaugural, the postgraduate students pursuing Psychology spoke on the dangers and struggles faced by youth today. They highlighted that youth today are easily exposed to drugs, alcohol which can destroy their life. They also threw light on youth committing suicide, when they are faced with challenges. They spoke on the importance of taking challenges and failures positively and using hurdles in life as stepping stones to success.
The day-long event took an exciting turn when the students were engaged in activities and games. Through a cultural programme, they were allowed to showcase their talents. The winners were awarded prizes by Sr Dr Venessa A C.
Asha, assistant professor, department of English, was the host of the programme who matched the enthusiasm of the students with her energetic compering. Athena Aronha, assistant professor, department of Psychology welcomed the audience. Deekshitha Prashanth, assistant professor, department Journalism and Mass Communication proposed the vote of thanks. Sr Roopa AC was the convener of the programme.
