Kasargod, Aug 23: At a time when the entire Kerala was exulting in Onam celebrations, pall of gloom descended on Palot in Chemnad village, Kasargod district on Friday, August 21, as two young, innocent boys, who were also close friends, became victims of an unexpected tragedy.
Ratish (15), son of Appakunhi and Pushpa couple from Battampare in the town and Janish (15), son o Nirmalakshan - Jaya couple from Teruvat Ceramics Road, drowned in a well in Palot and lost their lives.
Both of them were the tenth standard students of Chemnad Jamaat higher secondary school. The two close friends parted only at night, since many years, they were treated as an inseparable pair by the people of the village. Fate ensured that the friends did not get separated even at death.
The two had gone on a fun-drive on a bicycle after lunch on Friday. By evening, they lost balance while riding by the side of a tank in Palot and fell into the tank along with their bicycle. Their bodies were brought out with the help of the locals and the fire brigade personnel. The bodies of the friends were kept in the mortuary of the government general hospital here, and scores of people came to see their mortal remains.
