Bantwal, Nov 18: It is reported that thieves entered a house at Kelagina Thumbay in the taluk on Sunday November 17 during the day and stole cash and ornaments valued at several lacs of rupees.
The theft occurred in the house belonging to former taluk panchayat member, Somappa Kotian, who resides at Kelagina Thumbay.
The family of Kotian was away attending a function at Allipade when the thieves entered his house by smashing the rear door. They took away 398 grams of gold ornaments, 100 grams of silver valuables, and Rs 15,000 in cash. Kotian said that this theft would have occurred between11.30 am and 1 pm.
As per the police estimate, Rs 15,000 in cash and ornaments worth Rs 12.92 lac were stolen. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts visited the area as part of investigation. Assistant superintendent of police, Saidulu Adavat, police circle inspector, T D Nagaraj and sub-inspector, Prasanna too visited the spot and undertook probe.
A case about the incident was registered in Bantwal rural police station.
