Mangaluru, Nov 16: In the diamond jubilee year of the prestigious Konkani monthly magazine ‘Sevak’, a family get-together of all the stakeholders of Sevak Monthly was held on November 15 at St Anne’s Friary auditorium, Bejai, here.
The convener of the Sevak diamond jubilee committee, Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza welcomed the gathering. The editor, Fr Prakash Lobo presented a brief report of the achievements of Sevak in the 60 years.
The highlight of the programme was a talk on ‘Present day Journalism and Social Responsibility’ presented by Stephen Mascarenhas (Hemacharya), the editor of Daijiworld English monthly magazine. The former editor of Sevak, Fr Chetan Lobo moderated the interactive session after the talk. Two former editors of Sevak, namely Fr VJ Menezes and Fr Rupert Barboza, representing all the former editors were felicitated. Two writers, namely Eddie Netto and Judy Pinto, representing all writers were felicitated.
On the occasion, two publications of Sevak (64th and 65th) were released. ‘Khanna gallo monna’ a collection of stories by Brother Juniper (Fr Frederick Rodrigues) was released by Dr Austin D’Souza, editor of Veez E-Weekly and ‘Nishani’ a collection of articles by Maxim Pinto was released by Dr B S Talwadi, a Kannada scholar who has 206 titles to his credit.
A host of Konkani editors and writers were present for the programme. Fr Valerian Fernandes (editor, Raknno), Wilfred Lobo (editor, Amcho Sandesh), Raymond D’Cunha (editor, Pingara), Henry Pernal (editor, Arso and Kittall.com), Donald Pereira (editor, Budkulo) and others were present. Popular Konkani writers, Dr Edward Nazareth, Ron Roche Cascia, CGS Taccode, Roshu Bajpe and several others graced the occasion.
Sevak diamond jubilee year will culminate on December 22 with a grand public function at St Agnes Special School grounds. The attraction of the day will be a fiesta of Konkal Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus’ scintillating family songs.
