Puttur, Nov 16: A felicitation ceremony will be organized by Post Graduate Department of Physics of St Philomena College (SPC) Puttur, to honour the professor and an eminent theoretical Physicist of Mangalore University Dr K B Vijaya Kumar on his superannuation, in PG seminar hall on November 18.
Dr K B Vijaya Kumar has 27 years of teaching and 38 years of rich research experience. He has successfully guided seven students for PhD. At present, he has been offering expert guidance for three students in pursuance of their PhD degree. Being an accomplished investigator in the field of research with the zeal to work for Physics, he had visited Department of Physics, Manchester University UK, as a Commonwealth Fellow in the year 1998 and worked there for a year. He had visited the Institute Kern Physik, Juelich, Germany in 2005 as Visiting Scientist. He had an opportunity to serve as Visiting Professor in the Institute of Theoretical Physics (ITP) Beijing, China (Under TWAS-UNESCO Associate ship program), in the year 2004 and 2006 and also in the Institute for Theoretical Physics, University of Tubingen, Germany in 2007, 2009 and 2010.
Dr K B Vijaya Kumar has successfully completed four major research projects on theoretical physics as a Principal Investigator, sponsored by the funding agencies, namely, BRNS, DST and UGC. Moreover, at present, he has been thoroughly engaged in five ongoing research projects.
Dr K B Vijaya Kumar has been very closely associated with St Philomena College as an external member of IQAC and member of Editorial Board of multidisciplinary journal ‘Pearl’.
On this special occasion, Dr K B Vijaya Kumar will deliver a lecture on ‘Group Theory and Elementary Particle Physics’. Principal Prof Leo Noronha, chairman of PG Centre Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, HoD of Physics Dr A P Radhakrishna, and coordinator of PG Studies in Physics Dr E Deepak D’Silva will grace the occasion.
