Udupi, Aug 16: “Our politicians only roar like tigers about Tulu onstage but they are like mice on the issue in Parliament or Vidhana Sabha. Hence, Tulu language is not promoted when compared to others”, said litterateur Bannanje Babu Amin at the ‘Paniyadi Kadambari’ award ceremony held at Mahajana Hall in Kidiyoor Hotel on Saturday August 15.
He said that Tulu language is declining because of decreased support. “Though even Tulu has a script, work to develop it is not going on. Politicians, who must support it, are not doing anything. But we have to do something to preserve the language for future generations”, added Amin.
The programme was arranged by Tulukoota Udupi which gives the Paniyadi award for the best novel in Tulu.
The award was given to Mangalore-based author Lalitha Rai for her book ‘Desanthara’. Divakara Shetty, president, Akhila Bharatha Tulu Okkoota, Sangli, gave away the award while Cathrene Rodrigues gave an introduction to the book.
Dr Bhaskarananda Shetty, president of Tulukoota, presided over the function.
Convener of Tulukoota Gangadhara Kidiyoor welcomed all and member Nanda Kumar gave the vote of thanks.
