Mangaluru, Oct 29: As polls will be held in 60 wards of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on November 12, the BJP released its first list containing names of 35 candidates on Monday, October 28 and second list containing names of 18 candidates on Tuesday, October 29.
The notable candidates whose names are featured in the first list are former deputy mayor Sumithra Kariya from Baikampady, Sudhir Shetty Kannur from Kodialbail, Premananda Shetty from Mangaladevi, Arshad from Kudroli and Priyanka Suvarna from Bunder.
In the second list, Sakila Kava will contest from Kadri North and Manohar Kadri from Kadri South. Sandeep Garodi is the BJP candidate from Kankanady-Valencia, Gangadhar Salian from Bengre and Kiran Devadiga from Maroli.
With just two days to go, BJP has to release names of seven more candidates. Meanwhile, Congress has to announce names of candidates in all wards and JD(S) has confirmed to contest from 20 wards. The names are yet to be released.
On Monday, four nominations were filed. MCC Commissioner S Ajith Kumar Hegde asked candidates to not come in processions while filing nominations. "Permission for processions is denied to avoid traffic blocks and to ensure the nomination procedure is conducted smoothly," Hegde said.
