Bantwal: Plywood mill at Brahmarakootlu catches fire - Heavy loss reported

Bantwal, Oct 24: In a tragic incident which happened on Wednesday October 23, a plywood mill located at Brahmarakootlu near here caught fire. The fire turned assets worth lacs of rupees into ashes.

The fire accident happened in Coastal Wood Products mill owned by K Hameed and functioning in front of Brahmarakootlu school in Kallige village.

At about 4 am on Wednesday, smoke began to smoulder from inside the mill. The watchman immediately upon noticing the smoke, called the mill owners and fire brigade. The fire spread to the entire mill within 30 minutes. Four fire fighters worked for three and half hours before they could douse the entire fire. The fire would have spread if not contained.

Flames burnt down dried core, space, seats, machinery, equipment electrical appliances, roof sheets etc. No loss of lives was reported.

It is suspected that fire was ignited on account of electric short circuit. Raw materials required to manufacture plywood were destroyed. Plywood mill owner said that the estimated loss is yet to be worked out. Bantwal town police visited the spot and undertook scrutiny.
