Kundapur, Oct 23: The confusion about Runamuktha scheme brought about by the state government is not over in Udupi. People gathered information through newspapers and media and flocked to the assistant commissioner’s office in Mini Vidhana Saudha on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday adding to the commotion.
More than three hundred people from Udupi, Karkala, Hebri, Byndoor, Amasebail, Shirur and other places arrived in hired vehicles and had to return empty-handed. Those who arrived were annoyed when the officials said that the last date for submitting applications was over on Tuesday. The people asked the officials to tear the applications received on Tuesday when the officials refused to accept new applications citing that the last date for receipt of applications was mentioned on the notice board. The people in turn asked if they had to come to the office only to see the notice board.
Kundapur police arrived at the spot when the situation went out of hand. A meeting with applicants by the police in the afternoon was futile. The applicants, who waited till afternoon, threw the applications brought by them there and went back.
Misleading brokers: It is said that brokers who are working in the office vicinity writing applications and Xerox shopkeepers had mislead and confused the farmers and growers saying that all the loans including gold loans will be waived off in the villages. There are allegations that applicants paid Rs 200 vehicle hire, Xerox shopkeepers and those who filled applications have charged between Rs 150 to Rs 200.
The Runamuktha scheme brought bumper business for Xerox shops and those who fill applications.
