Udupi, Jul 31: Gujjadi Ramadas Nayak, managing director of Swarna Jewellers, noted that the readership in Kannada language has suffered, as there is no compulsion or encouragement for a man, who is conversant with Kannada language, to read Kannada works. He suggested for organizing competitions relating to reading of Kannada publications, holding Kannada quizzes etc., in English medium schools to create an interest in the language.
Nayak was speaking, after handing over the prizes of 'Taranga Yugadi Dhamaka' to the winners, at a programme organized at the auditorium of Valley View Fortune Hotel in Manipal on Wednesday July 29, He appreciated the efforts being made by 'Taranga' to increase its readership through such contests.
Department of information Mangalore senior assistant director Rohini K said that 'Taranga' has been creating an interest among the people towards itself through new inventions and always being in search for newer possibilities.
Managing editor of 'Taranga' weekly, Sandhya S Pai, expressed her thankfulness for the interest evinced and affection shown by the readers of the weekly, by taking part in 'Yugadi Dhamaka' competition. She noted that the readers of the weekly have developed a close bond with the publication and wished that this relationship will be maintained through out.
Manipal Media Network managing director T Satish Pai handed over mementoes to the guests. Chief executive officer Vinod Kumar was present. On behalf of the prize winners, Dr Ravishankar and Poornima Upadhya shared their feelings.
