Udupi, Jul 28: "The soul of India lives in its villages," declared Mahatma Gandhi at the beginning of 20th century. In keeping with this ideology, there is a need to equip the rural youth of today with knowledge and skills for social work, in a bid to prepare them for advanced social work practices in a variety of human service settings.
St Mary's college, Shirva in the taluk, affiliated to Mangalore University, now offers a post graduate programme in Master of Social Work (MSW). The programme combines the core courses in the foundations of social work with supervised field instruction, to give students an on-hand experience in applying social work theories to professional practice, apart from fostering an abiding commitment to professional values and social justice.
The college promises excellent learning resources, experienced faculty and individual attention for the students opting for the course. The college is unique in view of the fact that this educational institution offers courses from kinder garten to post graduation with excellent facilities in the same campus located in the rural environs of Udipi district.
It is hoped that this inititive from St Mary's College will inspire the young brigade to channelize their energy and efforts towards raising the quality of life in the society around us and thereby make significant contributions to the development of the nation as a whole.
The campus offers hostel facility for outsiders. For more information, the following may be contacted:
