Bangalore, Jul 28: Leader of the house Dr V S Acharya stoutly stood by the circular issued by the government last month, through which it had barred the opposition leaders from holding the meetings of the officials, at the legislative council on Monday July 27.
"The opposition leaders should work within the confines of the rights they have been constitutionally entitled to. They should not try to cross their limits," he suggested.
Answering an adjournment motion moved by the council opposition leader V S Ugrappa on the issue, Acharya said that the government is committed to vest the opposition leaders with the powers they are legally entitled to. He also informed the house that veteran leader and leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, L K Advani, had expressed surprise at the claims of the state opposition leaders that they have the right to convene meetings of the government officials.
