Mangalore, Jul 28: The second additional district and sessions court here, through a verdict pronounced on Monday July 27, sentenced Abdul Kalam (35) from Muniyal village in Kasargod and C H Amu (50) from Chengala village, to five years of rigorous imprisonment coupled with a fine of Rs 1,500 each.
The case is ten years old. Out of the five accused charged by the policemen, the first accused, Bajal Jalligudde Kasim (35), was released, considering the period he spent in judicial custody. Third accused Ayub (38) from Kanhangad and Aziz U (42) from Darbe Kemminje, are absconding.
After a man named Kasim presented a fake currency note of Rs 500 denomination to Abdul Kalam, a vendor of tender coconuts in the city on December 15, 2009, the policemen hit the trail of the accused and arrested three of them. They had been able to seize fake notes of Rs 500 denomination from Abdul Kalam, Ayub, C H Amu and Aziz.
