Bengaluru: Kumaraswamy says JD(S) will carry out fight at session alone

Bengaluru, Oct 10: "We are not under any compulsion to support the Congress during the legislative session and carry on a joint struggle against the government. Our party will fight it out alone," clarified leader of the JD(S) legislative party and former chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy.

Speaking to media persons at the party office here on Wednesday, October 9, he reiterated that there is no question of his party supporting the Congress. "We will decide on our own the way we have to participate in the proceedings and how to raise the topic of problems faced by the people," he stated.

In reply to a question, Kumaraswamy acknowledged that Congress leader and former chief minister, Siddaramaiah, is in a much stronger position than his party. "He has the backing of more number of legislators. They will do their work," he said.

Kumaraswamy was critical of the way the BJP government responded to challenges posed by flood situation. "During the natural calamity, share earmarked for states is being allotted to them. In certain cases, some states get more funds. Last year, Maharashtra and Rajasthan had got more funds. Karnataka had got less grant. This year again this situation appears to be repeating. If we take into account the current economic condition of the central government, we cannot expect more grant from them," he criticized.

He noted that the BJP has been saying that the time is nearing in which funds parked in Swiss banks would be brought back into the country and credited to their respective accounts. "Instead, let them disburse this money to those facing acute problems. At least let the BJP succeed in mitigating hardships of poor people," he said.
