Udupi, Oct 10: Adani Foundation had implemented 'Swachhagraha' Project – a movement to create a culture of cleanliness, in 61 schools of Udupi district during the period November, 2018 to October, 2019 and the Review Meeting of the same and Award Ceremony for the Best Schools and Best Students were held today in the premises of Udupi Power Plant at Yellur village. Kaup MLA Lalaji R. Mendon, Uma. P, Block Resource Coordinator of Education Department, Udupi and Kishore Alva, President & Executive Director of Adani UPCL lighted the lamp for today’s programme.
Awarding the best schools and best students under Swachhagraha project, Lalaji informed that Mahatma Gandhiji had initiated Swachhagraha along with Sathyagraha movement and now Hon’ble Prime Minister is motivating for implementation of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan across the Nation.
Expressing happiness, MLA informed that, in this regard, Adani Foundation, to motivate the habit of cleanliness to the younger generation right from their schooldays, has implemented “Swachhagraha” project in the Udupi District schools. He also told that Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts is ahead in the field of education and many Educational Institutions are imparting education to the students from rural area. It is creating a history in the field of education, he added. He further informed that Adani, under its CSR, is supporting the students in the District by providing education kits, education grant every year. He also urged that Cleanliness and Hygiene should not be restricted only to the schools, but also to be maintained in the society to make our village, city, state and nation proud. He applauded the efforts of Adani Foundation in creating awareness on cleanliness in the rural areas as a part of CSR activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Kishore Alva informed that the Swachhagraha Project draws inspiration from Satyagraha movement in terms of engaging people and bringing about change similar in scale to India's freedom movement where people get involved to take action for 'creating a culture of cleanliness'. He told that Adani Foundation has implemented this programme in 18 states, covering 72 cities, 4,340 schools, 4,532 Swachhagraha Preraks and 82,172 Swachhagrahis. During the last one year, Adani Foundation has successfully implemented the project in 61 schools of Udupi District involving 64 Preraks, 8,636 Swachhagrahis and 1,149 Dal Members. Alva expressed happiness that the Students under the able guidance of their Teachers and Head Masters have understood the importance of cleanliness for self-growth and growth of the nation. He appreciated the students’ active participation in World Water Conservation Day, Walkathon to create awareness on the cleanliness, making crafts like best out of waste, taking oath to maintain cleanliness.
Alva also informed that it is the duty of every individual to inculcate the practice of cleanliness and join hands in maintaining cleanliness in the surrounding areas also.
Later Block Resource Coordinator P. Uma, explaining the importance of the Project and Cleanliness, requested all the School Heads to continue practicing the guidelines of Swachhagraha.
Five Best School Award, 3 Safai Ke Sitare, 3 Best Students in Essay Writing, 3 Best Swachhagrahi of the year were honoured during the occasion.

Headmaster/mistress of 61 schools, Swachhagraha Preraks, Adani Foundation team members Shubhamangala, Sukesh and Anudeep were present during the occasion.
