Bantwal, Oct 4: A complaint about a man posing as journalist, claiming himself to be the cameraman of a private television news channel and blackmailed an educational institution into issuing him a cheque for Rs 50,000, has been filed.
It is said that Ashok, resident of Siddakatte Elpel, who had threatened a private school with spreading negative news about the institution, had succeeded in collecting a sum of Rs 50,000 from the authorities by way of cheque.
The people in the educational institution grew doubtful about the genuineness of the said person. After issuing the cheque, they contacted the reporters of the channel mentioned by the imposter stationed at Mangaluru, and found out that the person in question was fake.
Immediately they contacted Ashok over phone. He confessed to his crime and returned the cheque and pleaded with the school authorities not to file police complaint, it is gathered.
On the basis of complaint filed by the convener of the educational institution, a case stands filed in the town police station here against Ashok.
