Shimoga, Jul 24: In an incident that occurred in Anavatti village in Sorab taluk in the district on the night of Wednesday July 22, a couple, Satyanarayan Shetty (60) and his wife Saraswatamma (55) were killed. The robbers also took away valuables and cash found in their home.
Reportedly, the robbers entered the house of the couple at about 8.30 pm, assaulted Saraswatamma and murdered her by tightening a rope around her neck, before robbing the valuables and cash. It is said, Saraswatamma raised an alarm but the neighbourers, who heard her shouts, did not dare to come for help. A little later, Satyanarayan Shetty, who came home after closing his shop, too was inflicted with serious injuries by the robbers, who fled thereafter. Shetty, who was rushed to Mcgann District Hospital in Shimoga, died later. It is said, the neighbourers also heard the shouts of help raised by Shetty too. They came to the spot after some time and then conveyed the information to the policemen.
Superintendent of police Murugan visited the spot. Sniffer dogs were used. Anavatti police registered a case.
