Mangaluru, Oct 3: Robin Hood Army organized ‘Bon appétit-A Meal to Heal’ at Vidya Jyothi School, Kavoor, on Wednesday, October 2.
The green clad group of 50 volunteers fed more than 200 people along with empowering them through menstrual awareness and first-aid modules. The Robins, as they like to call themselves, distributed sanitary napkins to all the girls and their mothers while teaching them about health and hygiene. Food is love made edible and what made the event more special was that it corresponded with Gandhi Jayanti and as Bapu himself said, "There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread."
The food was sponsored by Prince Caterers, Mangaluru.
As one Robins shares, “In coming for these drives, I make friends with the tiny tots and receive blessings from the elderly. I end up finding my lost grandmother and we both end up finding a family. The town of Mangalore, which was just my hostel till yesterday, now feels like home. It’s the acceptance the Robins receive on the streets, the realization that the richest never deal in money and that the best remuneration can just be a satisfied smile!” RHA Mangalore has now completed one year of food and academy drives at orphanages, old-age homes and slums across the city. It now has 300 volunteers including students from Manipal University and NITK Surathkal.
