Mangalore, Jul 22: Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Srinivas S Kamath has informed, that it has been decided to defer the Rail-Roko programme scheduled to be held on July 25 at the city central railway station against the injustice done to the rail commuters of the region by way of extension of train No. 6517 to Kannur. Instead, the Action Committee, at its meeting held here on Wednesday July 22, decided to hold a peaceful protest march from the office of the deputy commissioner to the city central railway station at 11.30 am on July 25.
The decision was taken, taking cognizance of a letter addressed by Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel to KCCI and his telephonic conversation, in which he confirmed that he has already taken up the relevant issues with the railway minister about the need to cancel the extension of Bangalore-Mangalore train to Kannur and the need to start a day train to Bangalore. As the MP said, he hopes to get a favourable decision from the railway minister and in view of the fact that union minister for state in the railway department, E Ahmed, has invited Kateel to meet him in the city to resolve the issue, the Rail Roko programme has been deferred, as requested by the MP, KCCI said.
It also added that Nalin Kumar has assured that he, along with Udupi M P D V Sadanand Gowda, will lead an agitation to redress the grievances of the railway commuters here, if the railway minister fails to fulfill the aspirations of the people here.
