Mangaluru Sep 28: Police commissioner Dr P S Harsha felicitated powerlifter Pradeep Kumar Acharya who bagged 2 gold medals at the Commonwealth powerlifting and bench press championship held at Canada on September 17.
Police commissioner Dr P S Harsha assured full-fledged support to Pradeep and said he will be invited to be part of programmes which offer motivation and support to youth.
“Pradeep bagged 2 gold medals in Canada recently. Today, I have felicitated Pradeep for his achievements. Pradeep is an inspiration for youth, who strive to achieve success in their life. It is unfortunate that many youth these days are involved in drugs, crimes. I wish all the best to Pradeep in his future endeavorus,” Dr Harsha said.
Pradeep was even felicitated by MCC commissioner Ajith, who assured to provide him a grant so that it can help him excel in his sport.
Pradeep Kumar Acharya from Urwa Store represented India in the 83 kg senior division of Commonwealth Powerlifting and Bench press Championship being held at St John's in Canada. He won gold medal for the country in 83 kg senior category on September 17.
Pradeep registered total lift of 210 kg in bench press and won gold medal in first attempt. In powerlifting, he lifted total 752 kgs and won gold medal and best lifter award. There was a tough fight for this award among 5 countries but finally Pradeep was declared the winner.
Pradeep was trained by Sathish Kumar of Balanjaneya Gym.
Pradeep Acharya received rousing welcome at the Mangaluru International Airport on September 24.
