Udupi, Sep 26: H B Mohammed Ali, president, administrative committee Kannangar Jumma masjid, Abdul Aziz, general secretary, D K Mohammed, P M Bhava, Iliyas and the committee members conducted a press meet in the city stating that false allegations were made against them by former committee members.
Denying the allegations against the administrative committee, H B Mohammed Ali said, “Kannangar Jumma masjid is a historic masjid which was built around 500 years ago and around nine Madrasas come under this masjid. The old masjid was reconstructed and renovated 10 years ago and approximately three crore rupees were spent on it. Only one lac rupees were provided by the Waqf committee and the rest of the amount was collected from the donors of jamaat.
“30 employees work under this masjid and around five lac rupees is spent every month. To overcome the expenses, a Commercial shop, a residence for travelers and a samudaya bhavana named haiba auditorium is constructed right in front of the masjid. 50 lac rupees is sanctioned from minority welfare fund and rest of the money is collected from the donors for the completion of this project.
“Samudaya Bhavana was inaugurated on October 12, 2015 and it was named as Haiba auditorium on the same day. No funds were sanctioned by the government for the residence stay but for the renovation of the darga building, 20 lac rupees have been released by the government. Out of which five lac rupees are handed over to the administrative committee of Jumma masjid and the rest of the money is held back by some people by providing false information to the government. These people are against any sort of development of the masjid from around 25 years. They are trying to defame the committee and the name of the masjid for their personal revenge.”
“We haven’t misused the authority of Kannangar Jumma masjid. Flse allegations are made against us and we always work for the progress of the masjid and its development,” stated the president, secretary and members of the committee in the press meet.
