Udupi: Parking, no-parking system should be regulated – DC Jagadish

Udupi, Sep 22: “As parking problem has become acute in Udupi and Manipal, the parking and no-parking areas should be identified and the system should be strictly followed,” said DC G Jagadish. He was addressing at a district road safety committee meeting held in DC office auditorium on Friday.

He suggested the construction of a multi-storeyed building for parking and asked to conduct a survey and submit a joint report from municipal council, RTO and police department in this connection.

He asked the council to install street lights on highways and main roads. He asked to close potholes on Udupi-Hebri-Karkal and other main roads.

He asked officials to take legal action against educational institutions if their students below 18 years are found driving a vehicle.

“Junctions to install signal lights are identified and spots for parking will be marked after survey,” said DSP Nisha James.
It was decided to hold a one day programme on road safety in schools. The meeting discussed if trees beside Parkala-Malpe highway can be replanted without cutting.

Additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu, municipal councillor Dr Anand Kallolikar, RTO officials, PWD officials and national and state highway department officials were present.
