Chikkabllapur, Sep 20: Muniraju (45), a contractor from the town, had separated from his first wife. In order to marry a second time by choosing an ideal girl, he registered himself in a matrimonial site. Soon he found a girl who seemed to match his requirements.
A girl who checked the bio-data uploaded by Muniraju in a matrimonial site six months back, called him over his mobile phone. She introduced herself as J Daksha Patel. They began to chat with each other. She claimed that she was working for a company in Italy and that her family members had agreed to accept Muniraju as their son-in-law. She made him believe that she would return to India, settle down here and marry him.
On July 23, she said she was returning to India and sent photo of the flight ticket by Whatsapp. She called again to say that she had reached Delhi where customs officers had taken her into custody for possessing foreign currency notes worth Rs 1.5 crore. She said she needed to pay Rs 55,000 by way of taxes and requested Muniraju to credit this amount to her account. Thereafter, in course of time, he transferred different amounts totalling to Rs 33 lac to the account number provided by the lady.
At last, the mobile phone of the lady got switched off. The contractor, who realized that he had been taken for a raid, got the bank accounts of the lady verified and found that everything was fake.
