Bengaluru, Sep 18: Over 200 people were rescued by the fire department, after a fire broke out at UCO Bank branch in MG Road on Wednesday afternoon. Three fire engines put out the fire and no casualties have been reported so far. 

UCO Bank occupies two floors in a six storied building named Farah Towers. A short circuit in the power unit of the elevator is believed to be the cause of fire. However, the cause is yet to be confirmed. 

The fire created panic in the neighbourhood. Fire and emergency services rushed to the spot. The third floor is occupied by a computer training centre and over 120 students were present during the time of the incident.

With thick smoke inside the building, the class enclosures of the computer training centre had to be broken. 

According to an eyewitness, some people in panic tried to jump out from windows. However, they were advised not to do so and were safely evacuated by fire fighters using ladders. 

One of the firefighters confirmed to media that all people were evacuated and a check was done to ensure the same.

"A probe has been initiated to find out whether proper firefighting equipment was installed at the building or not," Sunil Agarwal," ADGP Fire And Emergency Services told media.
