Sullia, Sep 17: Santosh (25) from Bengaluru, who was a member of a team of trekkers that had undertaken trekking in Kumara Parvatha near Subrahmanya, went missing when the team was at Girigadde on Sunday September 15. Kumara Parvatha is part of Pushpagiri wildlife sanctuary.
The team had left Bengaluru on Friday and had arrived at Subrahmanya the same day. The team then entered its trekking trail of Kumara Parvatha from near Devaragadde in Subrahmanya. On Saturday, the members undertook trekking of the hill and completed the hiking of Shesha Parvatha on Sunday. The team had lunch at the residence of Girigadde Bhat and was ready to leave back home.
Five of the team members had left from Girigadde ahead of others. Santosh followed the team alone from a distance. Another six persons were trailing him by some distance. During this period, within a gap of ten minutes, Santosh disappeared all of a sudden, it is said.
The trekking team comprised of youngsters employed in different companies at Bengaluru, and they were friends. It is gathered that Santosh did not have a torch with him. Those who followed him had noticed Santosh adjusting his shoes but no one knows where he went or whether he missed the path.
The wildlife officials were informed about the incident the same night. A thorough search was undertaken subsequently. The team reached Subrahmanya on Sunday and lodged police complaint. It has been decided to undertake search operation on Tuesday in Kumara Parvatha and Subrahmanya reserve forest with help from local youngsters.
It may be recalled that two years back, one of the team members undertaking trekking had died after lightning struck him here. It is said that this is not an ideal time for trekking of Kumara Parvatha and the path is enclosed by thick forests inhabited by wild animals. It is gathered that Santosh, who was a little fat, is likely to have lost his way.
