Kalaburagi, Sep 16: "The long-cherished dreams of the five districts forming part of Kalyana Karnataka will be coming true soon. The airport that has come up here on a 745 acre plot of land at a cost of Rs 230 crore will be inaugurated on Kannada Rajyotsava day, November 1, this year. We are making preparations for the launch of the airport on the scheduled day," said local MP Dr Umesh Jadhav.
Jadhav was speaking to media persons on Sunday September 15. "We were trying to dedicate the airport to the world on September 17, but on account of last minute technical hitches, the plan had to be dropped. We will somehow complete all the works by October and see that flights will operate from here from November 1 onward," he explained.
Jadhav said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and chief minister B S Yediyurappa, would be invited for the inaugural. He noted that administrative sanction for the project was given when Yediyurappa was the chief minister. He therefore expressed the view that it would be good if he can inaugurate it.
He said that the current and previous central governments have extended full support for the project. He explained that the project is funded by the state government but licences and other support are being given by the central government.
