Beltangady, Sep 16: There has been a twist in the case relating to the suicide of jeep driver from Thotattady, identified as Jiju.
Jiju's son, Jilson, has claimed in a complaint made in Dharmasthala police station that his father ended his life because of a sense of loss of self-respect arising out of the fact that private moneylenders forcibly took away his jeep after openly insulting him in Aniyoor downtown for not returning the amount borrowed by him. The police have been investigating the allegation.
Jiju had hanged himself at his residence on September 12. In his police complaint, Jilson said that Biju Paicat, who runs moneylending business locally, was responsible for this suicide. Such allegations have often been made in Neriya and surrounding places about those running private finance concerns.
Because of the new act enforced by the government, those who were involved with private money lending, have been trying to recover the amounts lent by them as soon as possible. It is guessed that for this reason, those who had financed the purchase of jeep by Jiju would have pestered him to clear his loan and taken back the jeep.
Dharmasthala police have now begun to investigate the incident from the angle of harassment by private moneylenders. The police hope to make headway in this case after holding the detailed investigation.
