Mangaluru, Sep 15: In two separate boat mishaps that took place in the Arabian Sea near Kaup and Ucchila, 21 fishermen were rescued.
In the first incident, S M Fisheries boat belonging to Basheer Dawood Nekkiladi went for fishing in deep sea on the morning of Friday, September 13 from the old fishing port of Mangaluru. When the boat reached Kaup around 3.30 pm, water gushed into the boat accidentally. Nine fishermen in the boat took the help of a boat that was fishing nearby and reached shore safely.
In a complaint that was filed with the Mangaluru Trawl Boat Union by Basheer Dawood Nekkiladi, owner of S M Fisheries boat, the boat is sunk in the sea and the estimated loss is Rs 30 lac.
In the second incident, Kariya Jodi boat, owned by Ashok Puthran of Ucchila got damaged due to the high waves of the sea on Friday, September 13. It is learnt that the 12 fishermen on board of the affected boat were rescued by crew of Shivaprasad boart that was fishing in nearby waters. The damaged boat is towed to Malpe port.
It is also learnt that the fishing boat owned by Aithappa Suvarna, that had gone for net fishing on Thursday, September 12 met with an accident in the sea while returning with the catch of fish. All the fish that was caught got washed away into the sea. But the crew and the boat were both out of danger.
