Mangaluru, Sep 14: The management and staff of St Aloysius College celebrated Islamic feasts as part of ‘Inter-faith Harmony Day’ at St Aloysius College here on Saturday, September 14.
Principal of Ramakrishna College Dr Balakrishna Shetty said, "Earlier Dakshina Kannada was known for peace and harmony, but today it is not the situation as politics has entered into the religion and innocent people have become the victims of it.”
Head of chair in Islamic Studies at Yenapoya University Dr Javed Jamil said, "Today there is no harmony and peace on earth because people are dictators of themselves and does not follow God. They are divided under various grounds. All religions are same. The basic messages are same, but we misinterpret the messages and follow our own. Religion teaches us not to indulge in any immoral activities, we have to stick to the principles and do not hate others. Religion has nothing to do with communalism. They are part of economics and politics.”
Professor of Philosophy St Joseph's Seminary Fr Ivan D Souza said, "I congratulate the college for promoting inter-faith harmony. Today, people hate each other, lynch just because the other belongs to another religion, and supress voices. We all need to stand united and work together for a greater cause.”
Principal of St Aloysius College Fr Praveen Martis said, "We need to understand religion. Followers of various religions misinterpret religious practice. That is where we go wrong. We should recognise the goodness of the religion and build bridges between religions instead of building barriers and walls.”
Nishath and Basith compered the event, Shameena A K from the department of Biochemistry welcomed the gathering.
