Bengaluru, Sep 14: Karnataka chief minister, B S Yediyurappa, has promised to undertake repair of ghat roads like Shiradi and Charmadi which connect coastal districts with those in the plains so that vehicles can ply on these roads without hassles.
His promise came at a meeting of people's representatives from Dakshina Kannada district held at Vidhana Soudha here on Friday, September 13.
Giving details of the meeting later, Mangaluru (south) MLA Vedavyas Kamath said that ghat roads like Shiradi and Charmadi have suffered extensive damages due to very heavy rains. Noting that these roads connect Dakshina Kannada district with the rest of Karnataka and their current bad state has created problems for road users, he said that the people's representatives had urged the chief minister to get these roads repaired as early as possible in the interests of the general public. "The chief minister was positive in the matter and assured to direct the officials to repair all ghat roads as soon as possible," he explained.
Kamath expressed the hope that problems faced by the people of Mangaluru on account of defective property cards in the matter of registration of land and building will be things of the past soon. "We have explained in details about the property card problems and issues faced by the people. Yediyurappa told us that he is aware of the problems as similar problems persist even in Shivamogga. He has asked the officials to register land and buildings for the present without property cards for a limited period by which time, meetings of MPs, MLAs and deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district should be held to solve problems faced on this issue. Once all issues are addressed, property card would be mandatory," he explained.
He said that the people's representatives urged the chief minister to give impetus to Smart City project of the central government in Mangaluru city. The chief minister, who also holds urban development department, promised to instruct the concerned to hold meetings of MLAs of different areas and to speed up smart city project, he added.
