Mangaluru, Sep 12: Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala was celebrated at Expert PU College, Kodialbail on Wednesday, September 11.
Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice chairperson of Expert Group of Institutions, Deepika A Nayak and Prof Ramchandra Bhat, principal, Expert PU College, Kodialbail, lit the festive lamp and marked the commencement of the celebration.
Later, Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak spoke on the significance of Onam and remarked that this festival brings people of different faith together. Srividya, lecturer in Physics explained the variety of Kerala dishes that are prepared and served on banana leaves on this auspicious occasion. Pookkalam or the floral rangoli which is thought to bring good luck and prosperity was laid near the college entrance by the students.
The management and staff showcased their dancing skills by performing ‘Thiruvathira Kali’ one of the traditional dance forms of Kerala. This was followed by a traditional lunch called ‘Onam Sadhya’ which reflects the spirit of the season and consists of a variety of Kerala delicacies. Moreover, the ladies and gents of the college were traditionally dressed in Kasavu Sarees and Kaili Mundu bringing great fervour and zeal to the celebration.
