Kalaburagi, Sep 11: A woman who accidentally fell into River Bhima that is in spate was swept away by powerful current for a distance of two kilometres. However, she miraculously survived the ordeal, as she held on to shrubs in the middle of the river.
The person who survived this terrible accident happens to be Vijayalaxmi from Nelugi in Jewargi taluk in the district.
On Tuesday September 10, Vijayalaxmi had as usual, approached the river from her home and collected water from the river in a pitcher. As she turned towards her home, she slipped and fell into the river with her pitcher. As there was no one around at the time, she watched helplessly as the water current dragged her along the river. After travelling for about two kilometres in this manner, she determinedly held on to bushes in the middle of river. Some shepherds on the river bank saw her. They went to the village and brought people who were good at swimming. These people rescued the woman from the middle of the river.
