Belagavi, Sep 10: Raghveer (21) from a village in Belagavi district that falls under the jurisdiction of Katki police station, who was addicted to PUBG, an addictive video game, sought money from his father, Shankarappa, on Sunday night. Raghveer Kammar urgently wanted to recharge his cellphone. Shankarppa, who knew well that his son, who neither attends college nor is employed, had been addicted to this game since the last some months and was whiling away time and money on it in spit of repeated advices, refused to part with money.
An angry Raghuveer, in a fit of rage, sliced off his father's neck and separated the skull from Shankarappa's body. He also chopped off Shankarappa's legs with the same machete, before fleeing from home.
Raghuveer Kammar, a college student, was so addicted to playing PUBG on cell phone that he had stopped attending college since some months. His father had tried various methods to free his son from the video game addiction but his efforts had failed.
Katki police got information from the family members of Shankarappa in the wee hour of Monday that Raghuveer had sliced off his father's skull and cut off both his legs. They also revealed that Raghuveer had absconded after committing this heinous crime.
Katki police inspector, Shivanand Kaujalagi, revealed that Shankarappa was working for the police department, and was distraught at the fact that his son, who was addicted to PUBG neither studied nor listened to advice given to him repeatedly against playing it. The two often quarreled on this issue. The police officer said that Raghuveer grew very angry at his father as he took away Raghuveer's phone and refused to recharge the phone.
The family members of the victim said that the youth attacked his father after everyone in the family fell asleep. Raghuveer, after committing the said crime, escaped from the house with his cell phone. He was arrested by the police on Monday afternoon, and Raghuveer agreed that he was the one who murdered his father. The police are questioning him and also in the process of taking into possession the machete used for this murder. Raghuveer, who has been held on murder charge, will be produced before the court shortly, the police said.
