Mangaluru, Sep 8: The officials of the city corporation here have continued with their raids on shops and establishments found to be making use of banned plastic. The entities found to be using plastic are being imposed with fine. It is learnt that a fine of Rs 1,04,400 has been collected during this month so far.
On Tuesday last, the officials had raided 45 shops at central market, Kadri Shivbagh and Kottara areas and seized banned plastic weighing 113.5 kg. On Wednesday, they concentrated on establishments near State Bank and Lalbagh areas. 19 shops were targeted, and 33 kg plastic was seized, and fine of Rs 11,800 was collected. On Thursday, shops in Valencia, Pumpwell, Bendur, Karanglapady, Bejai and Suratkal were raided. They seized 83.37 kg of banned plastic and imposed fine of Rs 36,750. On Friday, 41 kg plastic was seized from shops in Bendoorwell area. Here, a fine of Rs 23,000 was collected.
On Saturday, units engaged in manufacture of plastic bags at Mulihithlu area were raided and 740 kg plastic worth about Rs 1.25 lac was seized. Fine of Rs 10,000 was collected.
