Udupi: Traffic violation fine hike - Rs 1.75 lac collected in three days

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Sep 8: The hiked rates for traffic rule violation cases came into effect in the district from September 5 onward. During the three days since then, a sum of Rs 1,75,800 was collected by way of on the spot fines in the district. Out of the above, Rs 1,12,500 was collected on Saturday alone.

The split figures of violations are 66 cases relating to not wearing seatbelts and 72 two-wheeler riders riding without helmets. In some cases, court notices have been issued. About 300 cases were registered and fine was collected on the spot.

SP Nisha James

On Saturday, a ceremony for taking over charge by the new office bearers of the students union was organized in the city. A procession of the office bearers of the union was taken out in over ten open vehicles, which were accompanied by various other vehicles.   The police had provided security for the procession.

But after the procession reached MGM College in the evening, several students tried to enter the college ground. Thereafter some were stopped and fined for violation of traffic rules, non-possession of driving licence, documents etc by the police.

The enhanced fines, it is learnt, are yet to be implemented in Mangaluru, although city police commissioner, Dr Harsha P S, had said on Friday that software upgradation process had been almost completed.

NEED OF THE HOUR IS TO FINE BUSES WHO DO NOT USE BUS STOPS BUT ON HIGHWAYS AND VEHICLE PARKING AS THEY WISH THEREBY TRAFFIC HOVACS.

FINE SHOULD BE LEVID FOR PRACTICAL REASONS BUT NOT FOR THE SAKE OF TARGET COLLECTIONS.

THE VIOLATIONS OF SERIOUS IN NATURE ARE ALLOWED FOR PRACTICE.

Who is going to fine the city corporation for the pathetic condition of roads in Mangalore? On another note Mangalore citizens quietly accept pot holes on main roads and bear the torture without complaining. They are only worried about whether a particular road should be named as St Aloysius College road or Mulki Sunderram Shetty road.

Welcome step taken by concerned authorities. Kudos. Deep pocket penalty is the only solution available at the moment to deter reckless drivers. Agree that much more monitoring is required in the days to come. Let us see if we can bring the violators of rules in line. In gulf countries, this idea works fine. Good beginning. (If one jumps the traffic in Muscat, the penalty is equivalent to about Rs.93,000).

Dear cops, please levy heavy penalty to those idiots who drive their bikes on foot path between St. Aloysius College and Jyothi Circle which is very common, putting their and others lives in danger. REaders, come what may, please dont support those who don't follow traffic rules.

This is the middle class that is paying a high price for their callousness of Modi led BJP win again. They have to bear the burnt till 2024 now. The money collected will go to election funds like it brought from RBI prior to election.

Decisions taken by Modi Govt., in 2014-2019, the effect is falling heavily on the middle class. The decision like Article 370, though it tries to dig deep into the nationalistic emotions of entire nation, with failures after failures in every implementation, hope that this does not turn out to be yet another colossal failure. If, it turns out so, like it or not, all these scraps picked from public through fines, will go to JnK to handle the unrest there.

Dear SP Madam, Appreciate the efforts to minimize the accidents , loss of life and property by increasing the fine value for the violator is most welcome. However what about accident caused by bad roads, insufficient sigh post, without refactor humps? Is the responsible dept/ personnel is pay fine? why can't Govt implement strict fine or suspend those who are responsible for it. Please take note this too ma'am before applying hefty fines to Aam Admi.

Traffic rule violation is a violation.
Bad roads can not justify the violation of traffic rules.

Great comments. Fine on drivers without safety of the road without proper signage and many more. It is a shame on punish the drivers without the repair of roads, clear speed limit signs, school zone signs, crossing signs, many things of safety signs. I understand some drivers are too rash in driving without caring of public who deserved such hefty fines for sure and suspend license for a month and cease the vehicle for a week to teach a lesson
