Hassan, Aug 30: In a heart-wrenching incident, a five-year-old boy lost the sight of his left eye as he was beaten by the secretary of the institution with a steel ruler for being poor in studies. The incident has come to light a little late.
A Manish (5), son of Rani, a resident of Udayagiri of the city is the unfortunate boy who has lost vision on his left eye due to the blow. Girija, the secretary of LVGS Jnana Gurukula school on the industrial area of the outskirts of the town is the one who caused this damage by hitting the eye of the boy with a steel ruler.
A Manish studies in the pre-primary class of the school. He was taken to the secretary of the institute Girija and president R T Venkategowda by his teacher Divya complaining that Manish is does not show interest in studies and he is poor in studies. Girija who got enraged by the complaint given by the teacher, immediately took a steel scale that was lying nearby and hit the boy on his face. It hit the boy on his left eye, which caused bleeding. Then she called Rani, mother of Manish and asked her to take the boy back to home.
Rani took her son to a private eye clinic in the city. The doctors over there told that the left eye of the boy has suffered severe injury and it is very difficult to restore his vision. The doctors also said that the expense of the treatment would cost Rs five lac.
It is said that the management of the school, which initially agreed to bear the cost of the treatment, later threatened the mother of the boy with dire consequences. Rani, the mother of the injured boy said that the management of the school to kill her and her son Manish if they take the issue to the police or media. A case is registered in this regard in the city police station. Cops have taken up the investigation.
Netizens have expressed their rage over the style of functioning of Girija and LVGS Jnana Gurukula school. They are saying that the child should be corrected and not beaten, if she or he is poor in studies or should be rusticated from school. No one has the right to give such a heinous punishment. Do not admit schools to such institutes.
Reacting to the incident, Manjunath, DDPI of Hassan said, "Concerned officers are sent to LVGS educational institution to investigate and submit a comprehensive report on the incident. Based on the report, notice will be served to the erring people. A case in this connection is also registered in the police station."
