Udupi, Aug 29: Suresh Marakala from Saibrakatte near Barkur in the district, who is currently working as a teacher at Besur government high school in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu district has won national level best teacher award.
Marakala has been a multi-talented person since young. He is a teacher of social science but has not confined himself to teaching that subject alone. He has exhibited tremendous talent in various fields and has become hugely popular with the school children.
To enliven the teaching process, Suresh Marakala also has been imparting education in shadow play, mirror writing, piano, keyboard, acting in plays, papercraft, horticultural education, underground drainage education, painting, wall painting, music, etc. He has considerable skill in computers and has started a Youtube channel.
He has been giving training to teachers in the capacity of a resource person. For motivating children who lag in learning, he has been running Viveka night classes. Before joining the education department, he had served the police department for about eight years. His wife, Prathima, serves as a cluster resource person at Mudrady.
Suresh had failed when in school but secured the first rank in B Ed examination and bagged four gold medals. This record in Dharwad university has remained unbroken even today. Because of this achievement, he had received the Prime Minister's award in 2010.
Suresh, born in a family of farmers at Saibrakatte, has come up the hard way. His efforts and service-mindedness have rightly been recognised and he deserves the top honour of the nation.
