Bangalore: Liquor Likely to Cost More

Bangalore, Jun 28: Liquor in the state is all likely to cost more. The government on Saturday June 27 has hiked the annual licence fee for bars and restaurants as well as retail wine shops.

According to the revised rates, retail shops have to pay Rs 3 lac and bars and restaurants Rs 3.2 lakh for renewal of licenses from the current financial year. The rates are applicable to shops and bars and restaurants in town panchayats, town municipality limits and rural areas. 

The ban on arrack has led to increase in the business for the wine shops, which has led the government to hike the licence fee.

    The Govt. is raking in money by increasing the duties and taxes year after year. There is no loss for the wine shop owners or bars as they will immediately pass on the price rise to the customers. As rightly pointed out by Mr. Charles in his comment, it is common/poor man who is the sufferer. He will have to shell out more for his evening fix.

    After the closure of arrack shops, the liquor lobby is minting money selling cheap quality booze, which probably has a high margin, to the lower end of the drinking segment. Also all sorts of brands are promoted in this category giving scope for illicit and duplicates to thrive along with the regular stuff thus affecting the health of the consumer!!

    The closure of arrack shops has brought in more financial misery to the poorer sections of society as they have to shell out more money and also have to travel to the town limits for buying booze!! Today the liquor industry is the fastest growing industry and the liquor lobby is very strong and influential!! Who cares about the poor peasant??? Cheers!!

    BJP GOVT WAS THE ONE WHICH WAS AGAINST THE LIQOUR ... NOW IT LOOKS LIKE THEY HAVE A TASTE FOR LIQUOR AND IT IS ONLY SOURCE OF INCOME FOR THE GOVERMENT

    Ultimately this is leading to spurious liquor and the poor people are the sufferers. Government will get their revenue by hook or crook..
