Bengaluru, August 24: "Union government is thinking seriously to ban plastic," said Union minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers D V Sadananda Gowda .

Speaking after inaugurating the largest international plastic items exhibition of South India, he said that plastic adversely affects the health of people. “Therefore, the union government is thinking seriously to ban it.”

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is thinking over banning about 5% plastic products that are used only once. The campaign in this connection will be set in motion during the upcoming Gandhi Jayanti,” he said.

“The use of multipurpose Polymer will be encouraged,” he added.
