Kasargod, Jun 26: K C Hamza, a resident of Muliyar Mastikundu, who is the main accused in the murder of his housemaid, 14-year old Safiya from Madikeri Ayyangeri on January 15, 2006, has succeeded in getting bail after prolonged efforts, from the state High Court.
He has been granted bail with the specific condition that he will have to present himself before the Kannur intelligence wing deputy superintendent of police between 9 and 11 am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. He also has been ordered to cooperate with the narco analysis test scheduled to be held later and be present for investigation as and when called upon to do so.
Hamza has been accused of killing Safiya by setting her on fire and then cutting her body into pieces and burying them near a vented dam, the works connected which was being executed by him in Goa. He also allegedly hoodwinked the investigators by conjuring up an imaginary story about Safiya’s disappearance and bribing the policemen to avoid getting arrested. After a prolonged agitation headed by the girl's patients and a group sympathetic to them, the accused was arrested on July 1, 2008.
The charge sheet in the case was filed on September 29, 2008, after the Kerala police team disinterred the skeletal remains of Safiya and conducted forensic tests. The earlier bail applications of Hamza had been turned down by the lower court, even though the other accused were granted bail.
