Kundapur, Aug 24: “The Yediyurappa led state government has waived Rs 60 crore loan of fishermen within three days of coming to power. But there is confusion among fishermen self-help group if the loan has to be repaid. The confusion will be cleared in a joint meeting of chief minister, fisheries department chief secretary and minister Kota Srinivas Poojary in another two or three days. Fishermen should repay loans on time. The amount will be credited to the accounts of the members just like the interest on it,” said Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district cooperative fish marketing federation limited Mangaluru president Yashpal Suvarna.
He was speaking after inaugurating tenth anniversary meeting of Jai Karnataka retail fish dealer’s association held in Narayanaguru Kalyan Mantap, Kundapur.
“The chief minister will be invited to the undivided Dakshina Kannada district in the days to come and will be congratulated by the fishermen. The primary demands of fishermen including increasing loan amount of fishermen from the current 50 thousand to one lac, development of fish market and solution for CRZ problem faced even after allotment of house under Matsyashrama scheme etc will be placed before the chief minister.”
“The Jai Karnataka retail fishermen association that was founded ten years ago is being provided banking services through multipurpose cooperative society. It is heartening that it is earning profit,” he said.
Jai Karnataka retail fishermen association president Ratna Mogaveera Koteshwar presided. Fisheries deputy director Ganesh K, Corporation bank Vaderahobali branch manager Ashok Kumar, Jai Karnataka retail fishermen cooperative society president R Manjunath Balikere, fisheries department assistant director Shivakumar, Jai Karnataka retail fishermen association honorary president K Shanker Kharvi and vice president Aslam Saheb were present.
Udaya Kumar Hattiagadi gave an introduction. Federation president Yashpal Suvarna, Corporation bank Vaderahobali branch manager Ashok Kumar and fisheries department deputy director Ganesh K were felicitated. Secretary Jinna Saheb welcomed and tabled the report.
