Udupi, Aug 23: The progress assessment meeting of flood affected areas of the district was held under the leadership of minister Kota Srinivas Poojary at the Conference hall of the DC office in the city on Thursday August 22.
Speaking with scribes after discussing with the concerned officials, minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said, “It is estimated that the damage and destruction caused in the district due to the recent flood is around Rs 545 crore. Five people have lost their lives. Government has declared a compensation of Rs five lac to those whose house is completely destroyed in the deluge. Rs five crore is already released as emergency relief. Action is taken to pay this to the affected victims. Once the emergency relief gets over, the government will release more funds.”
The minister further said, “Four houses are completely destroyed. 675 houses and 112 schools are partly damaged. 335 trees have got uprooted. In addition, two anganwadi buildings have completely razed to the ground.
“All the departments are asked to be alert till the issue of flood-affected victims is completely resolved. In comparison to other districts of the state, the damage and destruction in the district of Udupi is less. The district administration is always ready to face the deluge situation. Instructions are given to personally investigate the loss of house cases. It is decided to provide Rs one lac for houses that are damaged partially.”
Deputy commissioner G Jagadish, additional DC Vidya Kumari, district in-charge secretary Maheshwar RAo, MLA K Raghupati Bhat, SP Nisha James, zilla panchayat president Dinakar Babu, vice-president Sheela K Shetty, other officials and people representatives of the district were present.
