Mangaluru, Aug 23: Under instructions from All India Congress Committee, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has been taking steps to affect change in the guard in respect of Congress committees of ten districts in the state. Dakshina Kannada district has been included in the list of districts where leadership change is on the anvil.
KPCC has appointed observers to each of these districts. MLA and former minister, Tanveer Sait, has been appointed as the observer for Dakshina Kannada district. He has been asked to organize meetings with local leaders and send proposals to KPCC by September 10.
Current district Congress president, Harish Kumar, had taken over charge from former minister, B Ramanath Rai, during the year 2017. Harish Kumar was elected as a member of the legislative council during May 2018. On this basis, expectations about change of president were in the air and discussions were going on this issue since then. KPCC had put off the process in view of the assembly and Lok Sabha elections which were lined up thereafter.
The name of B Ramanath Rai is actively in circulation on account of his popularity among the party workers. He had led the party as district president for about a decade. Many expect the party to go for younger people for the post. In such an eventuality, leaders like former city mayor, Shashidhar Hegde, former minister and MLA, U T Khader, MLC, Ivan D'Souza etc may be considered for the post.
