Mangalore, Jun 24: The people, who found computer chips embedded in the toilet soaps the representatives of a reputed company had handed them over for experimental usage, were taken aback. Suspecting them to be bombs, some of them reportedly threw the chips away while some others brought it to the notice of the Bajpe policemen.
A group of representatives of the soap company, who were on a visit to the village, had distributed the toilet soaps to the local people free of cost along with pen, book and bag, three days ago. They had informed that they would come back to collect the used soaps. Some of the people were startled to found computer chips inside.
When the team came back on Tuesday June 23 to collect the used soaps, the locals informed the police station. The team members said, the chips had been hidden in the soaps by the company for studying the affects the soap has on the skin. The people are angry that the company used the poor people for their experiment, without properly informing them or obtaining permission from the district administration and health department.
Julian Collins from England, who heads the team, said the software to decipher information from the chip is available with the company alone. She said those interested may verify the same with the company. She also assured that all the information along with records related with the survey would be provided to the deputy commissioner.
