Mangaluru, Aug 20: Parishioners of Valencia here on August 18 celebrated the 27th 'Konkani Manyata Divas' at the Golden Jubilee Hall.
The program began with a prayer led by Fr Arun Lobo. At 5.45 pm the cultural programme began where two wards combined together and performed. All the 9 combined wards entertained the crowd with their spectacular songs, skit and dance.
The chief guest for the function was Fr Ronald Serrao, rector of St Joseph inter-diocesan Jeppu. Parish council vice president Anil lobo welcomed the gathering. Chief guest addressing the gathering lauded the parish community for organising such a beautiful programme. He also mentioned that there is a need to save the Konkani culture and tradition. He urged all to save Konkani language and continue the tradition.
Parish priest Fr James in his presidential speech thanked the parishioners for coming forward and for participating in the programme.
Fr Ronald Serrao was felicitated on being appointed as the new rector of St Joseph inter-diocesan Jeppu.
Parishioner Nathan Pais, son of Shnye and Manoj Pais of St Anna Ward, was felicitated for his short story ‘Tomorrow’ for getting published in a US based magazine called ‘Adelaide’. The publication house has also offered Nathan to publish a book on which he is currently working.
Secretary of Youth and Cultural committee Sandra Lobo proposed the vote of thanks. Formal programme was compered by Teresa D’Souza and cultural programme was compered by ace compere Dolphy Saldanha.
The programme ended with a dinner which was prepared by the members of the ward.
