Udupi, Aug 19: Former chief minister of Karnataka H D Kumaraswamy inaugurated the cultural programmes pertaining to the Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations at the Rajangana of Sri Krishna Math in the city on Sunday, August 18. This programme is organized under the auspices of Sri Jagadguru Moolamahasamsthanam Sri Hrishikeshathreethapeetam Paryaya Sri Palimaru Math and Sri Krishna Math. Paryaya Palimaru Sri Vidhyadheeshatheertha Sripada, junior Sree of Adamaru Math Eeshapriyathreetha Sripada and junior Sree of Palimaru Math Sri Vidyarajeshwaratheertha Sripada were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumaraswamy said, "All the parents dress their children as 'Muddu Krishna' and see his naughtiness in their children and enjoy. Religion and culture play an important role in the country. We see the situation of great epic Mahabharatha in politics of today. Lord Krishna occupies the top position with regards to the founding of religion.
"Lord Krishna's message is very relevant to the Kaliyuga. The religion will be victorious at the end. Man has to surrender before the Lord and ask forgiveness for his sins. He should keep faith in Lord Krishna. Hindu culture is very special in present times. There is need for this land to be saved by Lord Krishna. Omniscient Krishna has the capacity to join all the parties."
In his blessing Sri Vidyadheeshatheertha said, "Everyone love Lord Krishna. He is required by all. When such a God resides in our land, Indians are not wretched. There is no one else in the world who is as great as us. Lord Krishna, who resides in Govardhana Giri of Mathura, protects all the living and non-living beings of this world."
Former tourism minister Sa Ra Mahesh, MLC Bhojegowda, Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat, former minister Pramod Madhwaraj and NMPT president Vekataramana Akkaraju were the special invitees.
History expert Prof Padoor Sripati Tantry, artiste Shamakrishna, Durgamba Motors owner Krishnanda Chatra, Nitte University professor Dr Anantapadmanabha Acharya and Prakashchandra Shetty of G M Vidyaniketan Harady were felicitated on the occasion.
The cultural programme started with Vedaghosa from the students of Sri Krishna Math and dance musical 'Sri Krishna Leela' presented by Kodavoor Nritya Niketana.
