Udupi, Aug 18: A self-employment motivation, information and training workshop were jointly organized by Catholic Sabha, Udupi region and District Industrial Center. The workshop was held at St Francis Church hall, Udyavar, here on Sunday, August 18.
Vincent Pinto, administrative director of Abhideep Group, Manipal, inaugurated the workshop. In his speech he said, “Christian community is hesitant to step into the world of entrepreneurship, due to which the number of entrepreneurs is quite less. In the community, currently the youth are opting to go abroad for their masters. They are content working under another individual rather than be self employed.”
“Youth must contribute towards creation of employment. Entrepreneurship is nothing but an art, everybody can be an entrepreneur and one does not need high standing degree to be an enterpreneur. Youth must make use of their talent and skills to be indispensable to the country,” he added.
Rev Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, spiritual director CSUP said, “When we think creatively, we generate the capacity to build. We can achieve anything by honing our skills. Self employment gives mental satisfaction. Even though we are filled with zest, we do not consider being an entrepreneur because we are hesitant of the risk it carries. However, if we handle the risks well, the reward will be immense.”
Robert Menezes, appointed president said, “Businessman and entrepreneurs are contributing to the economic growth of India. The youth should step into small scale industries rather than going abroad. An individual should have a firm idea and he should strive to achieve it. Let us all have a firm determination to be self employed.”
Resource persons Pruthviraj, district manager, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development of Karnataka (CEDOK); Satish, industrial expansion officer, District Industrial Center, Valerian R Fernandes, immediate past president, CSUP were present on the dais.
Dr Gerald Pinto, convener of self employment guidance committee welcomed the gathering. Santhosh Cornelio, chief secretary, CSUP rendered the vote of thanks. Alwyn Andrade compered the programme.
