Udupi, Aug 14: As thousands of people lost their houses and turned homeless in the devastating downpour resulting in floods in Uttar Karnataka and Malnad region, Udupi Press Club Media Friends collected necessary items worth about Rs two lac and sent them to the victims through the deputy commissioner.
The items were collected on calls by various TV channels from different parts of the district in association with Udupi Press Club. Clothes, water, rice, items of daily use, medicine, flour, pulses, biscuits, mats and cooking oil, water bottles, soaps and tea powder worth about two lac were handed over.
The first installment of the collected items was sent to the office of deputy commissioner by vehicle.
Press Club convener, Nagaraj Rao; district working journalist’s association treasurer, Diwaker Hiriadka; assistant secretary, Michael Rodrigues; sports secretary Harish Palechar, journalist, Shashidhar Mastibail; Sandeep Poojary; Chetan Matpady; Ashok Poojary; Rajesh Shetty; Manjunath Patagar; Ankit Shetty; Harish Balaipade and others were present.
Spokesperson, Khader Shah, information department’s Shivakumar and staff Sathish particpated in the mission.
