Mangaluru, Jan 3: In a significant operation, the Anti-Drug Team of the Mangaluru South Subdivision apprehended two individuals near the gate of the Doordarshan Centre at Pilikula under the Mangaluru Rural Police Station limits. The accused were allegedly involved in the illegal sale of cannabis to the public and college students.
Acting on a tip-off, the team raided the location and arrested Mohammed Asif (34) and Niyaz NA (40), both residents of Mood village. The operation led to the seizure of approximately 958 grams of cannabis valued at Rs 20,000 and mobile phones.
A case has been registered at the Mangaluru Rural Police Station under Crime No. 01/2025 and relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Details of the accused:
- Mohammed Asif, aged 34, residing near Goode, House No. 11/52, Jodumarga Post, Mood village.
- Niyaz NA, aged 40, residing near Goode Mosque, House No. 11-186, Rameeza Cottage, Jodumarga Post, Mood village.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of police commissioner Anupam Agarwal IPS, with directives from deputy commissioner of police (law and order) Siddharth Goyal IPS and deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic) K Ravishankar.
The team was led by assistant commissioner of police Dhanya N Nayak, with inspector K R Shivakumar, PSI Arun Kumar D, Anti-Drug Team PSI Puneeth, and personnel including Saju Nayyar, Mahesh, Akshar, and Thirumalesh actively participating in the operation.
